The harvest is valued at $6 to $7 per bushel. About eight commercial oystermen work the pond and many persons harvest oysters for personal use. Fish & Wildlife Service regional director Eugene Crawford to the Army Corps of Engineers, Crawford wrote, “A large annual oyster harvest is being taken from Green Hill Pond. Dredge areas were surveyed and volumetric analyses completed to provide updated estimates of available dredge material volumes available to implement restoration.But the pond’s history shows brighter days, when men and women of the sea would bring rakes, buckets and bags and dig through the mud for oysters and clams. Compliance support included developing permit applications to respective state and federal agencies, and an Environmental Assessment to meet NEPA requirements. The plan included metrics and criteria supporting development and implementation of the project’s adaptive management plan and associated post-restoration monitoring. Tidal records and sea level rise projections were evaluated and used to develop an integrated restoration plan. Our team conducted targeted sediment and vegetative assessments at the 38-acre site.
